About Ahjae Gookbap

Ahjae Gookbap is one of those places you end up telling friends about the moment you leave, especially if you love comforting Korean food that feels honest and familiar. Located at 339 Broad Ave in Palisades Park, New Jersey, this Korean restaurant has a welcoming, everyday vibe that makes it easy to stop by for lunch, dinner, or even a quick bite between errands. When I introduce Ahjae Gookbap to someone new, I usually start by saying it’s all about warmth, balance, and food that quietly does its job without trying too hard. The menu focuses on classic comfort food, with options that feel hearty yet clean, making it appealing whether you are craving something filling or looking for healthier, more mindful choices. Organic dishes and lighter options are available alongside richer flavors, which gives the place a nice sense of flexibility. Another thing worth mentioning is how easy it is to enjoy the food on your own terms. Ahjae Gookbap offers dine-in for those who want the full experience, while takeaway and delivery make it simple to enjoy the same flavors at home. During happy hour, the restaurant becomes an even more relaxed spot, with happy-hour food that pairs well with casual conversation and unhurried meals. Service feels straightforward and friendly, which matches the overall atmosphere and keeps the focus where it should be, on the food. What really stands out to me is how consistently comforting the experience is, from the first spoonful to the last. Whether you are new to Korean cuisine or already a fan, Ahjae Gookbap feels approachable, reliable, and genuinely satisfying, the kind of neighborhood restaurant that quickly becomes part of your regular routine. It’s also a spot where flavors stay consistent, portions feel fair, and the overall experience remains stress free, which matters when you just want good food without overthinking the choice.

This place has been around for over two years, but I finally got to visit. Honestly, it’s been a long time since I’ve had a Korean spot where even the kimchi impressed me this much. The fresh kimchi tasted just like something my mom would make! I thought the prices were a bit high compared to spots nearby, but the food was so good that I’m glad I came. After enjoying the gamjatang, I even came back for the ajusshi gukbap because it was that good!

Was curious about the raw marinated crap. Was interested to try and wasn’t bad and didn’t get sick the day after. Satisfied that craving. Their soup (what they are actually known for) and cold noodles were also just okay.

Ordered the soy marinated crab and gamjatang. Super delicious, and so were the kimchi and tofu side dishes. The service was really friendly and attentive to us without being overwhelming. Had a great meal, would come again!

This is my first time coming here and definitely won’t be my last! The food is amazing and so flavorful! I got the new korean raw crab and it came out bigger than my hand! For the price and quality it was definitely worth the try! The service was great and really nice. Plus the atmosphere felt very cozy!

We were really excited to try the food here given all the hype. We got a small order of marinated blue crab, marinated red shrimp, and ahjae gookbap. I've had Korean marinated shrimp and crab before, but the marinate felt like it was more salt than flavor. The marinate honestly overpowered the delicate flavors of the crab and the shrimp. I couldn't even suck on the shrimp head and that was a real bummer. The beef flavor of the ahjae gookbap was good, but the broth itself was also very salty. The egg and kimchi were a lifesaver to cut the salt. I drank so much water after this meal that I felt like a water balloon :(

Ahjae Gookbap is a small Korean eatery that surprised us in a good way. We went in for their soy-marinated crab (ganjang gejang) and found it fresh, tender, and delicately seasoned. Their house-made kimchi was full of flavor, and we also recommend the chive shrimp dumpling balls. It’s a humble place, but the service was incredibly kind, which made the experience memorable. Good value and a solid alternative if you’re in the area and craving Korean flavors without the wait.

Aesthetically this is a very unassuming place but give this place a shot and you will be very pleasantly surprised with the quality of food and service especially with such a small staff! The marinated crab is delightful the gamjatang is . Prices are very reasonable for the quality and quantity. One of the other diners left a takeout dish and the one server thay was taking care of all of us ran outside to chase after them. She really was running that place. Give them your patronage because these folks truly deserve all the love.

Decent quality of Gookbap (korean style soup with rice) place. “Ahjae Gookbap” was the beef born clean soup(맑은 소뼈 국밥). It feels similar to Galbitang(갈비탕). Their kimchi was so good, perfect for the Gookbap. Veg ball mandu(야채 알만두) was pretty unique style of dimsum for me. Generally speaking it was decent even though I have pretty high standard in gookbap. If you want to try korean traditional gookbop I recommend :)
